Difference between 2-pole and 3-pole
In order to determine the type of adapter you require, you need to know whether your device is 2- or 3-pole (i.e. earthed or unearthed). Apart from a few exceptions, the difference is easy to recognise on the plug: 2-pole device plugs have two pins; 3-pole plugs have three pins.
Exceptions:
- Schuko plug: 3-pole plug, but only two pins, earthed via the metal contacts on either side of the plug. The plug itself is round and the pins are slightly thicker (ø 4.8 mm). Caution: Do not confuse Schuko plugs with the Euro plug. The Euro plug also has two pins, but the plug itself is flat and the pins are slightly thinner (ø 4 mm). The Euro plug is a 2-pole plug.
- UK plug: most commonly found in the UK and many former British colonies. These plugs are always equipped with three pins, with the difference between a 2- and 3-pole plug recognisable from the materials used: UK 2-pole plugs have three pins, but the third pin is made of plastic. UK 3-pole plugs have three pins, with all three made of metal.
The SKROSS World Adapter Classic, EVO and MUV series are designed exclusively for use with 2-pole devices. All our other adapters support both 2- and 3-pole equipment.
